Princess Kate’s ‘Classic Royal Style’ Goes Viral
4 min readPrincess Kate’s glamorous appearances at official royal events have been praised by fans online as she continues her time out of the public eye while receiving treatment for cancer.
The princess cleared her regular schedule of appearances in January to undergo abdominal surgery. After an initial period of recovery, in March she then announced that, following the procedure, cancer had been detected and she had been recommended a course of preventive chemotherapy.
Kate has made two official event appearances this summer, the first to attend the Trooping the Colour celebrations in London in June and the second to attend the Wimbledon men’s final match in the English capital in July.
In the absence of regular new appearances, royal fans have taken to social media to share past highlights and favorite moments from Kate’s 13 years as a working member of the monarchy.
Uploaded to TikTok by user @luguape4 on August 9, a compilation of clips showing Kate’s high-fashion appearances in recent years has gone viral, gaining over 244,000 views on the social-media platform so far.
Since her introduction into the royal family, Kate’s fashion choices have been eagerly watched and dissected by the fashion press and fans, regularly winning praise. According to reports, the princess has an estimated value of over $1 billion to the U.K.’s fashion economy, with her influence on consumers nicknamed “the Kate effect.”
In the TikTok video, the opening clip showcases one of Kate’s most-striking outfits debuted in 2022, a yellow day dress with asymmetric bow detail on the bodice made by London brand Roksanda.
Kate wore this dress during her tour of the Caribbean in March 2022 to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee with Prince William. She also wore it to the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in London later that same year.
Other clips showcase Kate’s love of the classic coat dress style, highlighted during a 2022 solo visit to Denmark where she was photographed meeting Queen Margrethe II and Crown Princess Mary (now Queen Mary).
The gray wool slimline coat dress with contrast lapels worn for the occasion was designed by Catherine Walker & Co. the former favorite design house of the late Princess Diana.
Additional footage features Kate as she appeared at the Trooping the Colour celebrations this year, wearing a black-and-white dress designed by Jenny Packham, with a striped bow and belt detail that echoed Audrey Hepburn’s costume in the 1964 movie musical My Fair Lady.
The princess’ 2022 Trooping the Colour outfit also featured in the post, highlighting her vivid green coat dress with statement buttons designed by Singaporean designer Andrew Gn, and matching hat made by royal milliner Philip Treacy.
The TikTok video has received in excess of 13,000 likes and almost 600 comments so far, many of which have praised Kate’s classic style and regal bearing.
“She has such a classic royal style,” wrote one user. “My favorite outfit is the green she wore to the Trooping the Colour.”
“Princess Kate, truly beautiful with a beautiful soul which is why she just shines,” posted another, with a further comment reading: “Every color every outfit…. perfection.”
